What are the CPVA Eligibility Requirements?

Earning your CPVA certification is a process and commitment that is geared towards dedicated workers interested in furthering their careers. It requires a few years of professional exposure and experience in the real-world. To be eligible to sit for the CPVA exam, you must meet the following requirements:

 

  • 3 years of paid, regular experience as a virtual assistant or remote worker

  • Completion of a certified advanced VA course covering topics such as business ethics, English communication, client interaction and cultural assimilation.

How to Get Your CPVA Certification

   1. Complete Work Experience, Education and Training Requirements

The first step is confirming that you have the required education, training, and on-the-job experience to qualify for the CPVA exam. The criteria is as follows:

  • Minimum of 3 years, paid, full-time experience a virtual assistant or remote worker

  • Completion of 12 hours training course or approved self-study covering advanced topics in​: business ethics, data privacy and security, client communication, cultural assimilation and multi-tasking management

   2. Prepare for the CPVA exam

While you may have experience in the topics of the exam, studying significantly increases your chances of passing. Resources and material to help you study for the exam include:

  • IAVAP Advanced Course (fulfills education completion requirement)

  • Sessions and Courses delivered by an Authorized Training Partner

  • Self-study using your own books, research and materials

   3. Submit an Application

Create an account and submit an application documenting your work experience and education/training completion. If selected for a random audit, you may be asked for additional supporting information.

   4. Write the Exam

Once your application is accepted you are ready to write the CPVA exam online. You can access the exam here when you are ready.


If you have successfully passed the exam – CONGRATULATIONS! You are now able to use the prestigious CPVA designation on your profile.

 

If you missed a few questions that’s OK! Review the material and re-write the exam when you are ready to try again. There is no limit to the number of times you can re-try.

 

You DO NOT need to pay or complete any training courses to be eligible to write the exam as long as you meet the minimum eligibility requirements.
